Scorpion Automotive has won the BIBAs Exporter of the Year Award 2017 at an official ceremony held at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Friday 15th September.

The Be Inspired Business Awards, the BIBAs, is the region’s largest and longest running business awards programme. The award for export is based on achievement over the past year as determined by a judging panel comprising of a cross section of business leaders chaired by Kevin McGlone from the Department for International Trade.

The judging process itself included a detailed application, a Dragon’s Den style interview and a site visit with questions posed by the panel to Scorpion’s management and staff. The judging criteria considered how businesses have researched and identified export opportunities, how it has planned and successfully entered into new markets and how the company overcame the many challenges associated with exporting into multiple markets.

Head of Marketing & Sales Operations comments: “We are so proud of Scorpion’s entire workforce for their individual contributions towards winning the BIBA’s Exporter of the Year and reaching the Finals of the Manufacturer of the Year and Medium Business of the Year categories. A truly talented team. We would like to thank all our customers, partners, Department for International Trade for their on-going support. We couldn’t have achieved this award without you.”

Kevin McGlone, North West Region Campaigns Manager – Department for International Trade commented: “The Department for International Trade are delighted to be supporting the BIBAs once again. Exporting is not only crucial to growing the local and national economy of the UK, but there are also many benefits to trading in overseas markets. Getting businesses to believe in their products and services enough to take that leap of faith into exporting is at the very core of what we do and this year we have seen once again some shining examples of export prowess, but there can only be one winner. Our choice stood out because of their export achievements so far, for their investment in new facilities and local staff to service their export operations for re-shoring manufacturing from overseas back to Lancashire, for their long-term export strategy and their overwhelming believe that growth through international trade was the way to go. So, many congratulations to Scorpion Automotive.”

Mark Downing, Scorpion Automotive MD commented:” Congratulations to all the Scorpion team! It’s taken me a long time to assemble this premier division team. We are working to our strengths and we are seeking out advantages that Brexit has created. It’s about growing manufacturing, growing exports and taking advantage of current exchange rates. What we have are fantastic, highly skilled people in each of our departments. We write our own software and we manufacture right here in our Chorley based production facilities. Our products are then shipped to 16 countries spanning six continents. Several more countries will be added to our export portfolio over the coming year”.
