Mark Downing BA (Hons)
Mark is responsible for directing Scorpion’s overall strategy towards sustained, profitable growth and ensuring corporate objectives and standards of performance are understood and owned by the senior management team.
Originally trained as an Engineer with BICC in their Connectors division, then educated to degree standard in Business Administration, Mark has over 20 years’ experience as a Managing Director. He believes that the secret of success is attention to detail and excellent customer service.
Ian Davenport BEng MSc
Head of Research & Development
Heading up the Scorpion’s expanding and multidisciplinary R&D department, Ian’s team is at the forefront of the company’s technological developments for its UK and expanding overseas markets.
Ian and his team are responsible for identifying and solving complex vehicle electronics and telematics problems. To this end, R&D activities are very closely coordinated with Scorpion’s sales and marketing activities to ensure that the organisation is providing exactly what its customers need; along with the bespoke requirements of an increasing portfolio of OE and large volume aftermarket players from around the globe. Ian and his team also work closely with Scorpion’s Purchasing Team to inform upon optimal component selection and procurement.
The growing R&D team comprises of engineers engaged in: product design/development at PCB design level; coding using ‘Embedded C’ to design/develop programs embedded at microprocessor level; and engineers with expertise in GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo), GSM, RF, Bluetooth technologies.
Ian holds a Bachelor of Engineering and MSc degree in Electronic Engineering.
Carl James CMktr BA (Hons) DipM FCIM
Head of Marketing & Sales Operations
Carl holds responsibility for the group’s strategic sales and marketing function, developing plans and actions in support of Scorpion’s brand and growth targets.
Carl oversees the Internal Sales & Customer Service
He brings to Scorpion and its customers extensive senior sales and marketing management experience having held director-level tenures and senior consulting roles with global businesses as co-founder/MD of two award winning full service sales and marketing agencies.
Carl has led UK, US and European sales and marketing programmes – working alongside 24 car manufacturers, 6 motorcycle manufacturers, dealers and parts/accessory suppliers. Such works include marketing strategy development, product development, research and implementing a broad scope of website, ecommerce, digital marketing, print media and direct sales activities.
He is passionate about the automotive industry and the diverse and ever-changing nature of his profession. Carl thrives on meeting the variety and complexity of customer needs and positive customer feedback received. He’s a qualified Chartered Marketer and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Alongside a CIM Professional Post Graduate Marketing Diploma, Carl holds a BA (Hons) degree in Business Management.
Darrel Murgatroyd BSc (Hons)
Production Engineering Manager
Darrel directs the development and implementation of Scorpion’s manufacturing processes to ensure optimum production functionality, capacity and cost efficiencies. The role requires working closely with R&D, sales &
He is responsible for leading the Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis and as a part of the company’s Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process to IATF16949 standards. His production engineering expertise is also called upon within the Group’s Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), a standardised practice ensuring accurate and efficient communication with customers in approving production designs and processes before, during, and after manufacture.
In line with Group-wide practice, Darrel works to establish and maintain processes conducive to continuous improvement in manufacturing.
Darrel has a Bsc (Hons) degree in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering and possesses an in-depth knowledge of regulatory standards such as ISO9001, IATF16949 and those of the Institute of Printed Circuits (IPC).
National Sales Manager
Richard holds responsibility for UK Sales and Key Account Management.
Richard has an extensive working knowledge of electronic vehicle security and tracking systems having managed his own car security installation business for a number of years.
Richard was responsible for managing the sales team at Toad PLC from 2001 until joining Scorpion Automotive Ltd in 2007. He now heads up the external sales team at Scorpion Automotive Ltd as well as working closely on original equipment development projects with Aaron Mitchell, OE Technical Manager.
Richard believes the secret of success is an experienced, professional and friendly approach with first class customer service always in mind.
Mike Nolan BA (Hons) PSM
Quality Manager – Six Sigma Black Belt Trained
Mike is responsible for the implementation and on-going integrity of the Scorpion’s Quality Management Systems. This includes developing and reviewing the effectiveness of our procedures,
Mike has over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry, 9 of which have been with Scorpion Automotive.
Mike is a fully trained Six Sigma Black Belt en-route to becoming fully certified, has Lead Auditor Course training to ISO9001 and TS16949, is Minitab trained; along with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) training which all helps contribute to fulfilling specific customer requirements across Scorpion’s substantial customer base.
Regional Sales Manager – South
Reporting to Richard Andrews, Sue is Regional Sales Manager for the South. Sue has over 20 years’ experience within the stolen vehicle tracking industry, having started out at the very beginnings of the technology’s development at Securicor TrakBak where
From these early days, Sue has held Sales roles with NavTrak and Cobra and has been responsible for OE approved, stolen vehicle tracking sales via franchised dealer sites for many prestige brands including Land Rover, Bentley, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati and most recently, Audi following the Launch of the R8 in 2007.
As well as stolen vehicle tracking, Sue has extensive knowledge and experience of working with Aftermarket Resellers who specialise in all forms of automotive safety and security from alarms to parking sensors.
Sue joined Scorpion Automotive in January 2015 and is an enthusiastic and conscientious member of the sales team. With experience within both the direct and indirect sales channels, she has excellent relationship building skills and uses them ably to obtain and maintain business.
Sue also holds a Certificate in Marketing and has a broad knowledge of marketing communications methods.
OE Technical Manager
With over 25 years of experience in the automotive security industry 10 of which with Toad Plc, Aaron now provides technical support for the entire Scorpion range of products.
Aaron had vast hands-on experience of the installation and development of vehicle security systems for both vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket. He plays a leading technical role in developing and launching vehicle security and telematics programmes for several vehicle manufacturers. He also provides installation and technical training to Scorpion’s Authorised Dealer network.
Ensuring the smooth integration between vehicle and Scorpion systems has meant travel to, and co-ordination with manufacturer’s technical teams at their headquarters across the globe.
Highly motivated and organised individual, managing a team of production supervisors and operatives in both the electronic and electro mechanical production departments. Gill works closely with Purchasing, and ensures that sales order demand and deadlines are met by coordinating the efforts of production and warehouse.
Karen Hicklin MCIPS
Global Purchasing Manager
Karen is the head of the Scorpion Purchasing Team who are responsible for end to end procurement and ensuring the timely delivery of a multitude of component types each month in line with Scorpion’s manufacturing resource planning process and agreed Client Service Level Agreements.
The Purchasing Team are the central point of contact for all company purchasing, tasked with ensuring optimal cost efficiencies without compromising Scorpion’s renowned product quality and reliability. Karen who is MCIPS qualified has over 30 years’ knowledge and experience in electronic component procurement.
Aftermarket Technical Manager
Tony has worked for Scorpion for over 25 years and as Technical Manager, heads up the Customer Technical support department. Tony has responsibility for liaising with external bodies like Thatcham and gathering technical data from the field and working closely with the company’s R&D team regarding product development and continuous improvement.
Head of Motorcycle
With overall responsibility for Scorpion’s motorcycle division, the well renowned ‘Datatool’ brand, Dave reports directly to Mark Downing and works closely with Mark as part of the senior management team in determining the strategy for the two wheel market product range.
Dave joined Scorpion Automotive in June 2013 bringing with him over 25 years’ of manufacturer level experience in the motorcycle industry. With a career that includes time spent working for Kawasaki, Ducati, Benelli, KTM and Husqvarna, Dave has always had an affinity for security products and worked with Datatool at Ducati and Benelli to develop approved security solutions for dealer fitment in the UK market. Virtually every Ducati 996 sold in the UK was fitted with a plug-in Datatool alarm developed by Datatool at Dave’s request.
Technically orientated but with vast experience of sales and marketing, Dave is tightly focused on developing the Datatool brand on a global level. This remit entails ensuring carefully selected Authorised Distributors and Authorised Dealers have available to them a comprehensive security offering which meets the needs of our various markets.
