Scorpion LOCATE is a Thatcham Quality Accreditation (TQA) Fleet Management Standard System.

Scorpion LOCATE enables you to improve your business efficiency and productivity by giving you the tools to better manage your vehicle fleet. Tangible data records of vehicle movements and journey times can be used to educate drivers on more fuel-efficient driving techniques and better route planning, these apparently small changes in behaviour can lead to substantial cost savings within a relatively short period. Reductions in overtime claims, reductions in fuel use and better use of vehicles and your drivers’ time are all achievable with Scorpion LOCATE.

By utilising GSM networks and GPRS technology, Scorpion LOCATE provides fleet managers with a vehicle-specific monitoring solution offering 24/7 web-based vehicle tracking, asset management and security for a very competitive one-off payment.

Scorpion LOCATE is an easy-to-use vehicle tracking system designed to deliver the benefits that vehicle fleet operators demand without over-burdening them with unnecessary complexity. It is vehicle specific and supported by a series of web based applications which report on journey and vehicle locations with minimal tailoring or customisation.

Scorpion LOCATE provides journey data recording with an option for real time single vehicle tracking.

Scorpion LOCATE is available on a fixed price basis, with a single payment covering the Autotxt ECU, access to the on-line applications and all the associated services. There are no usage-based or variable charges to worry about and customers have the added flexibility of opting for either a one year or three year agreement.

KEY FEATURES

JOURNEY DATA RECORDING

Scorpion LOCATE captures and retains time stamped location data concerning all journeys carried out by all vehicles in the vehicle fleet This data is transmitted at journey start (ignition on) and at journey end (ignition off) to on-line application. Scorpion LOCATE retains the location of parked vehicles (i.e. vehicles with ignition off) and the journey mileage for each journey. When tracking has been selected for a vehicle, LOCATE will retain intermediate location data or route taken data.

The Autotxt ECU continuously monitors and maintains a record of the last known location of the vehicle up to the last ignition off. It transmits this data to the host at ignition off or when next in GSM/GPRS coverage along with the journey data. If a GPS fix is not available (when the vehicle has entered an underground car park, for instance) the Autotxt ECU inserts the last known location in the journey data and indicates that it has done so.

If at ignition on there is no GPS available the in-vehicle unit will transmit location data to the host when it is next able to do so as part of the ignition on journey data message. The on-line application will determine the last known (and stored) location of the vehicle. This location will then be used for the journey concerned, if possible and it will indicate that it had to do so in the journey record for presentation to the user.

Note that an entire ignition on/off cycle that occurs when the vehicle is out of coverage (e.g. moving a car inside a car park) is not transmitted by the in-vehicle unit. However, the last journey and the next journey that has had coverage will be transmitted.

Scorpion LOCATE provides a range of on-line reporting facilities for the journey which can be used to report upon the whole fleet or just a single vehicle. These reports can also be downloaded for use with Excel or other tools.

SINGLE VEHICLE TRACKING
Scorpion LOCATE allows an authorised user to instigate the tracking of a vehicle. This can be carried out by accessing the on-line application which will transmit a tracking signal to the vehicle required. Tracking can only be instigated when the vehicle ignition is turned on and in GSM/GPRS coverage. Tracking is limited to a single vehicle at a time. The tracking frequency is user selectable, at either, 1, 5, 10 or 15 minute intervals. The tracking is limited to a maximum of one hour or until journey end – whichever occurs first. The user also has the option to stop tracking (by issuing a stop track message from the on-line application. Once tracking has been stopped it will not resume unless it receives another track signal from the on-line application. The user can initiate more than one track within a journey either after a previous track has been stopped or it has ended after 1 hour.

In the event that a journey involves travelling through an area (or areas) where a GPS fix is not available, the on-line application will only present those tracks to the user where the location was known.

The fleet manger can view all tracks performed for any single vehicle on any journey on an interactive map.

GUARANTEED DATA DELIVERY
Scorpion LOCATE is designed to deal with loss of connectivity to the on-line application caused by a vehicle being in an area of poor GSM/GPRS coverage. If the vehicle is out of coverage at the start or end of a journey it will store the time/location data and then transmit it to the on-line application when next in coverage. The data will be retained in the Autotxt ECU until an acknowledgement of its successful receipt is received from the on-line application.

The same facility also exists for single vehicle tracking, with the restriction that vehicle tracking can only be instigated when the vehicle is able to receive a tracking signal – i.e. when it is in a GSM/GPRS coverage area with its ignition on. It is not possible to initiate tracking if a vehicle is in an underground car park. If the vehicle goes out of coverage whilst tracking, it will keep tracking and will transmit the data once it is back in coverage, as for journey data recording - even though the on-line application may not present this data to the user if the location of the vehicle is not known due to lack of GPS coverage.
